A group of scientists attempt to find a way to preserve peace by entering an induced sleep for 300 years. However, they awaken in 2019 and find themselves in a world without war and violence. The aliens are using subliminal messaging to control humanity. The sunglasses that Nada wears are the only way to see the subliminal messages. The original story was not dramatic but it fit well with John Carpenter's style after he read the story. At first, Nelson did not want his name to appear on screen, but Carpenter asked him to put it in for crediting purposes because there was no money available for residuals or royalties for this film. It has subsequently been turned into an independent film, "They Live", starring Roddy Piper. The film "Alien" is also based on a short story by Ray Nelson. The novel "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" has some similarities to "Akira" in that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world with people being discriminated against because of their appearance. This similarity is reinforced in the film when two human characters are found to be different species, one of which is the future champion of the "government" Schwarzenegger.This alien invasion film was based on Francis Ford Coppola's interpretation of John W.
